NC State RED-i Instagram Story Updates

In this project, I challenged myself to create visually interesting Instagram Stories that detailed the updated services offered at my job with NC State University's RED-i. I worked with existing media (the photos, graphics, and videos included), Procreate, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Premiere Pro to create 10 second animated clips. My goal was for these stories to be visually stimulating through basic animation while also conveying the service types we provide.

Story Components

The first step I took was to create short animated sequences using the animation feature of the Procreate app. I sketched out common motifs for each of our three service categories to act as frames for the examples I used to show the work we create. For photography, I used the original polaroid framing, next, for graphic design, I used the structure of Adobe Illustrator, and, for videography, I used both Sony and Canon screen set-ups. The graphic design animation was set up to be a single loop for the 10 second story, while the photo and video animations were simple three frame loops.

Once I completed the animations, I chose the content to be used in each story. I chose this content to represent the subcategories within each of our service areas that I was labeling on the story text. This meant that, for photography, I wanted example photos to demonstrate our most common requests for both headshots and event photography. For the graphic design story, I used two different logos we had developed, as I decided a detailed flyer design might over complicate the visual. Finally, for videography, I used a promotional video on the top - one that was created for NC State's Club Sailing Team, and a recap video on the bottom, which was made for NC State's chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority probate.

My final step involved both Adobe After Effects to add the animated text and transitions and Adobe Premiere Pro to add music to the slides. Once completed, I was very proud of the content I produced and the challenging steps I took to create it. This type of project - especially when compared to my first use of Adobe After Effects, see below - demonstrates my ability to challenge myself in the context of digital marketing and the perseverance I show when working to learn a new skill.

My first ever Adobe After Effects project, for reference. [95% of the graphics included in this story set were created by the RED-i graphic designer at the time, not by myself.]
